Substances that add volume belong to this category. As we grow older, the atrophy of muscles and fatty tissue increases resulting in the loss of volume in specific anatomical areas of the face and body.
Previously the trend was surgical removal. Today, however, this has changed and now volume augmentation is the treatment of choice. Implants are divided into permanent, semi-permanent and absorbable. The implants with the fewest and of course, if any, reversible complications are hyaluronic acid and autologous fat grafting.
Autologous fat transplantation consists of the transfer of fat from one anatomical area of the body to another, in the same patient of course.
Hyaluronic acid implants replenish lost volume and help address static wrinkles by supplementing the natural Hyaluronic acid left in the skin.
Hyaluronic acid treatment is indicated:
- in increasing the volume of the face
- in smoothing out wrinkles
- in improving the shape and contour of the face
- in the “sculpting” of the lips
- to restore skin firmness (décolletage, hands)
The doctor injects the hyaluronic into the skin to immediately restore the lost volume of the skin resulting in the smoothing of wrinkles, the face and redefining the shape and volume of the lips.
Hyaluronic acid is a clear, non-animal-derived crystalline gel that is a major component of the skin. It is a biodegradable material and is eliminated from the body after a period of time that is proportional to the quality of the implant. It usually lasts up to fifteen months but, as the sessions are repeated, its duration increases.
In the body, hyaluronic acid is used to ‘fill’ large surfaces such as the buttocks in order to achieve their lifting, in the chest to lift and increase it, in the calves to improve their shape, in the hands and especially on the dorsal surface of the palms so that the hand looks younger. The same goes for the neck.
It is even used to increase the size of the penis as well as in the adolescent woman to improve its shape. It is also used to ‘correct’ post-surgical scars and “dimples” that may occur after liposuction.
On the face, it is now used in any anatomical area with the aim of changing its shape as well as the overall shape of the face, such as the chin, lower jaw, eyelids and nose.
In fact, the implantation of hyaluronic acid in the nose takes fifteen minutes, it is painless and the result is immediately visible. The shape, the lines and the ratio of the dimensions of the nose are impressively corrected as if a rhinoplasty had been done without a scalpel and at a much lower cost. The same goes for the eyelids.
