ACNE

What is acne and what causes it?

It can affect both men and women with a clearly more frequent appearance during adolescence and post-adolescence. But in recent decades, due to stress and the modern lifestyle, it also appears very often in adult women after the age of 20.

Acne is caused by 4 main factors

  • Increased production of sebum from the skin
  • Blockage of skin pores
  • Increased presence of bacteria
  • In the presence of inflammation

There are three different forms of acne

  • Acne vulgaris (mild acne)
  • Papular / pustular acne (moderate acne)
  • Ozidiocystic acne (severe acne)

The more severe the form of acne, the more likely it is to leave permanent scars and marks if there is no scientific and medical immediate treatment.

What is adult female acne?

This is the appearance of acne in women after the age of 20, which either first appears at this age or continues from puberty. Stress and the modern lifestyle have been blamed, but a timely visit to the dermatologist is necessary, because it often “hides” other problems that need to be investigated, such as polycystic ovary syndrome, thyroid diseases, etc. Once the diagnosis is made, personalized treatment follows to avoid permanent marks and scars.

How is acne treated?

Acne is not “magically” treated and requires consistency and time from the sufferer. The earlier one visits the dermatologist, the sooner and better the results will be. Treatments are many and varied based on the severity and chronicity of acne.

Specifically:

  • Topical treatments (creams)
  • Oral treatments (pills) or combination with creams
  • Proper use of skin cosmetics, always personalized and not using products that are just around the house (e.g. from siblings who may also have acne)
  • Medical facial cleansing
  • Chemical peels
  • microdermabrasion
  • Skin regeneration with special lasers (Fractional laser)

Acne is treatable, but it needs immediate and specialized intervention so that it does not leave scars and affect the daily quality of life!!!!
