VASCULAR VESSELS

Medical treatment of varicose veins with sclerotherapy and lasers

Among the most important medical and aesthetic “problems” of the legs (besides unwanted hair growth and hyper or hypochromatic stains) are visible vessels of different sizes (from varicose veins to varicose veins) as well as cellulite.

Varicose veins and large varicose veins are treated surgically. Vascular vessels which are very small sized vessels. They are due to the dilation and proliferation of the small surface vessels of the skin or due to a medical problem (insufficiency of the saphenous vein valve) or due to heredity, or due to photo and ageing.

They are found mainly on the face and lower limbs and less often on the trunk and back. They are related to both medical conditions and time – and photoaging.

The treatments used to fight varicose veins are electrocautery, sclerotherapy and laser light sources, pulsed light, etc. Lasers have been used in the treatment of vascular lesions of the lower extremities since the 1970s with poor results until the 80s when a new, more effective type appeared, the pulsed dye laser (PDL).

In the 90’s another type was added to the “arsenal” of lasers for treating varicose veins, the Nd:YAG laser and thus the effectiveness of treatments increased even more. So today the treatment of choice for varicose veins is considered the Laser and more specifically two types of it the Nd:Yag and the pulsed dye laser (PDL) and usually 1 to 3 sessions are required.

Just three years ago, one of the largest companies producing laser devices in the world, Cynosure, built a model that ‘hits’ the vasculature at the same time with both of these types of lasers with excellent efficiency.

This device is currently considered ideal for treating varicose veins and in general all vascular damage both in the lower extremities and in the rest of the body (face, trunk, back and upper extremities).
